Urban Lighthouse – almost uniquely within the industry – pay or receive no commissions whatsoever for any recommendations to any associated businesses (eg. Solicitors, surveyors, mortgage brokers), meaning you receive recommendations from the very best local businesses, rather than those paying a commission for that recommendation.
Urban Lighthouse offer ongoing financial support to local Bedminster-based homeless charity Help Bristol’s Homeless, including sponsoring a bed in the conversion of their ’Home for a night’ bus, though this has been closed through the lockdown period for obvious reasons sadly. It is unacceptable in such an affluent city that there are an unfortunate few who are forced to sleep outside. This project is very practically helping to make a difference, the inspiration of founder Jasper Thompson, and an inspiring demonstration of how a small idea can make a big difference.
In addition to the bus, the larger part of the project is converting cargo containers into self-contained flats, at a cost of around £10,000 a container. They currently have a permanent site on Spring St in Bedminster, and a growing network of shower facilities and toilets, dining room and kitchen, as it becomes a community.
Since opening Urban Lighthouse have raised over £4,000 and aim to continue supporting them on an ongoing basis. We donate £25 for each completion, irrespective if the vendor agrees also to contribute. If the vendor agrees to donate £50 (we always ask but it is entirely discretionary), we will double our donation, making a potential donation of £100 for each completion.
